In her thesis, “Ausmass und Ursachen des Rückgangs der Feuersalamander-Populationen in der Nordschweiz” (extent and causes of the decline of fire salamander populations in northern Switzerland), Sarah searched 115 streams again for fire salamander larvae, streams that had first been surveyed in 2003 and 2004 for the Swiss Red List. She found that 27% fewer streams were occupied, and that both conditions in the streams and the land around them explain the decline.
