Project

My thesis is focused on the changes in the structure of African wild dog populations. Observations from the field tell us that there are occasions where the usual, clearly defined pack structures seem to dissolve temporarily. My goal is to explain these shifts based on 30 years of demographic data from our study population. To do so, I am trying to implement a social network-based approach to quantify the social structure of the population. Once quantified, I will try to explain the changes in structure as a consequence of various environmental and social factors to determine the underlying causes of the social shifts.
