Project
I joined the group as a PhD student in 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Arpat Ozgul. My research interests are rooted in population ecology, spatial ecology, and human-wildlife conflict. During my Master’s thesis, I collaborated with the Swiss organization ADAP (Aide aux Développements des Aires Protégées) to study a mammal population in Tanzania using camera trapping.
For my PhD, we will focus on studying the mammal community in the dynamic Okavango Delta ecosystem in Botswana, primarily through the use of camera traps. We will closely collaborate with Botswana Predator Conservation (BPC, https://www.bpctrust.org/) to collect valuable data aimed at improving conservation efforts for endangered species, such as the iconic African wild dog. This project will focus on carnivorous species, exploring various aspects of their ecology, including spatial-temporal dynamics, occupancy, and density estimates. Through this research, we hope to deepen our understanding of species distribution, interactions, and persistence within this unique ecosystem, ultimately contributing to more effective conservation strategies.
