Project

Every year parturition of roe deer fawns coincides with the mowing season in spring, resulting in the death of thousands of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) fawns due to accidents with mowing machines.
The aim of my thesis will be to develop predictions of neonate bed site locations based on environmental and climatic factors.
This work will build up on previous work to better understand which meadows are chosen by roe deer does and where within these meadows their fawns are located. The findings will contribute to reducing the number of fawns killed by mowing machines and thereby address a long-standing animal welfare concern in human-dominated landscapes of Europe.
